The United Kingdom (UK) Retail Sales jumped 1% month-over-month (MoM) in February after rising 1.7% in January, the latest data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed Friday. Markets expected a 0.3% drop in the reported month.
The core Retail Sales, stripping the auto motor fuel sales, rose by 1% MoM, against the previous revised growth of 1.6% and the estimated -0.5% figure.
The annual Retail Sales in the UK climbed 2.2% in February versus January’s 0.6% revision, while the core Retail Sales also advanced 2.2% in the same month versus 0.8% previous. Both readings exceeded market expectations.
